Is there a recommended diet we can follow that is low in vit D? I've been checking out the different links here but haven't yet found one that talks about the foods to EAT oppose to the foods NOT TO EAT.

If you scroll down the page under recommendations it gives a list of foods that are okay. Anything that isn't supplemented with vitamin D or naturally high in vitamin D (like eggs, fish, milk) and not fortified with folic acid should be okay. A lot of people also follow a low carb diet while on the MP.

MPKB.org is a pretty good resource for future questions.

Good luck,

Erin

Thanks Erin. I'm not very happy as a lot of the items on the list are foods I enjoy:

assorted fish, egss, bacon, mushrooms, seaweed, sunflower seeds, all of the oils, dairy (i'll have to read the vit A %), flour products (breads) + i already can't eat raw vegetables (but can eat cooked), most fruits (hurts my stomach), most processes items .. and i think someone here mentioned coffee too? yikes!! and i thought i ate relatively healthy.

You may wish to read Paul Albert's story for some inspiration.
He couldn't a lot of foods due to sensitivities, but this has substantially improved.

fibrogirl,

As I understand it, bacon, mushrooms, fish, eggs are high in vitamin D and therefore immunosuppressant. You may crave these foods because they palliate your symptoms. I used to eat fish fairly often after I got sick because I felt better afterward. As you get better and your body changes, your tastes and cravings will change.

You could try turkey bacon, the low in fat kind. I just recently started buying it and it's pretty good. The reason they suggest avoidance of bacon is because it is high in animal fat and the presumption is vitamin D is stored in fat.

You can also eat egg whites, just no yolk. The diet I go for is rich in chicken, turkey, egg whites, and vegetables.

Best,

Erin

Good thinking! I'll have to substitute fish for turkey then. I'm not much of a meat eater though and when it comes to cooking .. I'm not one to get techie with my food :D

Erin, I don't think it is animal fat in general, but pork fat.  It may have to do with the omnivore nature of pigs that they get fed things containing D.

Fibrogirl, you haven't put your location in your profile , so it is hard to make recommendations that are location dependent.  In the US, there are usually healthfood stores that carry D free dairy and whole wheat bread without soy, sunflower seeds, or vitamins.  There are oils that are OK.  I use canola oil freely, and try to get 2-3 servings of D free dairy a day.

Cynthia

Good.  Click on the 'My Account' button, upper right, and then click on the "Profile' tab.  You will then be able to type your location into the location part of the profile.  If you do that, it will show up under your name on every post you make.  Cynthia

Cynthia

I didn't think canola oil was suppose to be good for you. How about olive oil? I'll have to take another look at that list.

Don't know about canola oil being bad, but now that you remind me, I am actually using olive oil these days.  Sorry about that.  Memory is pretty good but not perfect.  I've used canola oil for so long, that I forgot that we switched.

Good to see that you got your location added so fast.  Looks like you are getting around pretty good on this site, so here is another thing you can do as you have time.  You will notice that most of us have a signature line with lots of good information.  There is a list of things we would like you to put into your signature line, again so that we can help you better as you go along.

Thanks, Cynthia

I can't really add anything to my signature yet because everything is a speculation at this point. I have not had an official diagnoses of anything. I mentioned fibromyalgia during my 3 minute appoint, and he suspects that's what I have as well. I have an appointment coming up with the referred dr (if I can name him) and we'll see what he'll have to say .. if I end up going.

You could put something in your signature line like "Considering MP, undiagnosed".  And the key symptoms you experience.

As per one of the sample signature lines that is provided in the link you were given:
MP not started | no diagnosis | severe fatigue, eye inflammation, rashes, joint pain | 25D result pending

It is really important as it assists all the volunteers who are trying to assist you.

regards, k
