Day three of Benicar and I want to get ready for 25mg mino. I am in the USA and wondering what form mino is best? My Dr. says it is only in capsule form but I have seen it in tablet form online. Trying to breakdown a capsule will certainly be a pain. Is there a mino tab in the USA and what strengths are available?
Also when can I start the mino? Do I have to wait 2 weeks or if I feel OK on the Benicar can I start it sooner? Thanks

I went to a compounding pharmacy called The People's Pharmacy and had 25mg mino made up into capsules. I couldn't find mino tablets in the USA. Here's a link with some other ideas: http://www.marshallprotocol.com/forum32/1077.html. One of the problems with breaking up a larger capsule is that the mino breaks down quickly when you take it out of the capsule, so I decided not to mess with it and get the compounded capsules. The compounded pills only last like 5 months or so, so don't get more than a few months worth at a time.

One of the reasons you stay on the benicar for two weeks is to make sure you do actually do feel OK on it. And that's why you stay on a dosage of an anitbiotic for a while too before increasing. Things can be going great for a few days, and you think wow is this it, I can totally do more, but then the next day it hits you. So don't go any faster than the guidelines allow. Plus a lot of people feel really good on just the benicar, and that's a helpful motivation. I felt better during week 2 of the benicar than I have in 20 years or more. It was amazing. Best anti-depressant I've ever tried. So, on my bad days now, I can think back to what that felt like and realize that feeling is hopefully coming back once I'm done.

My experience is that the tablets, 50 mg, are a lot more expensive, and I don't particularly like to put a burden in the insurance company more than is necessary, so my recommendation is to get a prescription for both.  Fill the tablet prescription first, then when you reach 100 mg, fill the 100 mg capsule prescription, and work between the 2 types as needed.  If you are paying out of pocket, get both.  Cynthia

Thanks guys! I just called a small local pharmacy and they said they would compound 25mg mino capsules. 50 and 100mg are the standard so if I get a bunch of 25's that should take care of it.

Hi Madhouse,

Welcome to the MP!

I wanted to comment on the Benicar alone for 2 weeks.  It was an important adjustment period for me.  I had a bit of dizziness and feeling of electicity like going through my body.  It was not unbearable but I think it was important to let that all resolve before starting the mino. There were probably things going on in my body that I was not aware of.  I'm taking the 75mg dosing now and I am going very slowly.

I was supported by some of the advocates and they all told me to take it slowly.  There is no rush.  And they were right.  I understand you are anxious to get this going.  But it really does work best when you take your time with each step.  Each increase of meds will be killing different bacteria, just let it happen.

I'm glad you got your pharmacy to split the pills for you!  That should be helpful.  I split my own and manage well.  If you do diciede to do it yourself, I found it worked best is a cool environment.

Take care and Hang in there.   I'll be checking on your posts.

Jean - Phase 1, 75 mg mino
