My doc just ok'd the MP and wrote all the neccessary scrips! Thanks Doc!
Walgreensn(pharmacy) didn't understand the perscriptions and wouldn't fill it until they contacted my doc, they thought it might have been a mistake. (a lot of Benicar they said) Everything was ok when they spoke to my doc's office.
I'm taking Beni every 6 hours to start. I was a bit scared to stop my steroid inhailer, but all went well, didn't even miss it. On day two my light sensitivity got worse and some brain weirdness started, felt like waves going through my head, that still comes and goes.
A few heart palpitations today and my body seems "charged". My muscles are aching a bit too. The IP starting, managable so far.
I'm wearing my NoiRs when I use the computer, the screen feels very bright with the light sensitivity.

Thanks Barney for the supportive words! It's great to read your successes so far, I'm happy for your and encouraged at the same time.
I know it's been only 5 days for me so far but this seems to be a pivitol day. I feel a little tugging in my chest. I'm going to have some water and get to bed.
Thanks again Barney, you're a good soul. I'm sure I'll check in tomorrow just to make sure all is going normal.

Day 17 on MP-started minocycline on Wed. 40 mg Benicar-6 hrs, 25 minicyline
Hi again. I've been on Benicar for two weeks now. I waited the full time so the symptoms from the benicar would stabalize before starting the minocyline.
I had lots of light sensitivity and fatiuge. A bit more brain fog and dizziness too, it's hard to tell with that because I've become so use to feeling brain fog. I'm wearing my 10% noirs indoors too during the day now, it helps.
Thursday, 3/26 I started the 25 minocyline every 48 hrs. Today was 2nd dose. My symptoms are:
- about 10 hrs in, rapid heart rate of 96 beats per min. resting while taking my B/P which was 109/68
- My heart rate seems to fluctuate frequently, slowing down with big "gulps" and speeding up feeling like morse code beeps, while at the same time instead of feeling my heart beat, I feel the beat in my neck or higher Is this normal???
- Also having a very strange sensation of my lungs shrinking and a feeling that my throat is closing up. Best description I can come up with is like haveing sleep apnea while awake. I had this last year, way before I know about the MP and I remember feeling this same sensation. Is this IM???
I was out of town all week, but now I'm home for the whole spring/summer. My husband and I deceided it would be best, so I can keep out of the sun as much as possible.
A bit uncomfortable, but hanging in there.
Jean

Hi, It's me again.
Just a note. I noticed that four hours after taking the Benicar is when I feel the best. I feel the least worse, if that makes sense.
Also, I tried at first to set my alarm clock for midnight, take the Benicar and reset it for 6am. Well, need I say that didn't work well. I'm now using my cell to set all my four alarms for the day, it's been working great.
Off to bed now...Jean

Hi Barney,
The lungs calmed a bit yesterday, untill this morning, day after my second dose of 25mg minocyline. Now it has come back again, accompanied by a sore throat, with minor heart palpitations too.
If it gets worse again tonight, I'm going to take Benicar every 4 hrs (at 10pm and 2am) 'till tomorrow morning at 6am.
I just read the kids their bed time stories with my noiRs on, it's funny how kids are so adaptable, they have gotten so used to seeing me in my shades, it dosen't even faze them that I'm reading with them on.
I'm getting my water now, thanks for the remminder : ), and for the supportive words.
Day 18
Benicar 40mg-6 hrs
Minocycline 25mg- 48 hrs.
BP - 112/72 this morning

Hi Again,
Day 22 on MP
Took 25 mg Mino today.
Benicar 40 mg - 6 hrs
BP - 102/62
I'm feeling a general soreness in my body today, mostly the front. Sore chest (muscles, breasts,) abdomen (muscles, right side below belly button)
Lung IP as usual, feeling of lungs shrinking, hard to inflate. This leads to sore throat.
Very tired, hard to even type.
Leg cramping or just pain, feels like its deep like in the bone??? not sure what that is. Got a strange cramp in my foot yesterday. Very painful, on the bottom of right foot just below the 4th toe. There was a mass of hardness there as it was happening, now it is still hard under the skin and a bit sore too.
sleepy Jean

Hi
It's Day 25
40 mg Benicar every 6 hours
25 mg Minocyline every 48 hrs, last taken yesterday 4/4/09
Having some IP symptoms:
Lungs are acting up again. Feeling of shrinking and closing up at my throat.
Also lots of restless legs, and a sort of zapping feeling on my shins. It makes it hard to rest or even sit still.
Light sensitivity has increased too. My eye's are hurting this time.. Is that ok?
Also I'm feeling pain in the kidney area. I'm trying to find the info on what to do if you feel kidney pain. Is there a link on the study site that someone can find??
The pain in itself isn't intolerable, but I don't know if it's ok to continue with the pain each time I take the minocyline.
Generally feeling "charged" like my body is working all the time.
My brain also feels like it's pulsating.
I deceided to increase my Benicar tonight to every 4hrs. until I can tolerate better.
Jean

Jean,
Thanks for the updates. I'm looking forward to hearing more. Did the Benicar at 4 hours help?
I'm not on the MP yet but expect to start within the next few weeks. A lot of the symptoms you mentioned are ones I've had before too. Last September I had the lung/throat closing thing several times but it just came and went. I'm curious if I'll have that come back too once I start on the MP.

Hi Marysue,
Yes, the Benicar worked. It helped tame the inflamation. I have to say, since I started the MP, it's a good/bad feeling when the IP happens. I'm just happy my body is responding and I imagine the pathogens being "attacked". Also, the IP can be unpleasent sometimes, but neccessary.
The key is to keep them at a tolerable level.
I had these symptoms too, before the MP. However, I didn't know what they were and I didn't have a way to calm the symptoms which is what Benicar does. Tihere was lots of anxiety that came with it at the time. Nobody could tell me what was going on. I'm glad you found this site, I was extremly excited and relieved when I came accross the MP study site.
Thanks for the post and good luck to you when you start!

Hi,
Day 27 on MP
BP 112/67
Benicar 40mg - 6hrs,
Minocycline 25mg - 48 hrs(last took 4/6/09
I am having a particularly tough day. Took the mino yesterday at noon. Was extreamly tired.
Woke up today feeling like my lungs were sealed together, closed??
What could that be..... I'm coughing up a bit of white stickly mucus too. Is this a normal reaction?? It's also hard to take a deep breath all day today.
Energy is low. Should I keep increasing my Benicar??
Not feeling so good, just wondering if anyone has an answer
Also wondering about the question I asked on 4/5/09 about having pain in my kidney area. Is there something specific I should be doing. Ask for a test from my doc??
Jean

My personal experience:
I started MP and for the first 5 months I had a productive cough that was very constant. I was advised to try guifenisen, which is an expectorant, and can be purchased at the drug store. It also has anti-inflammatory properties. This was very helpful to me, along with an "as needed" inhaler.
After 5 months my cough disappeared and I have better breathing than I have had in decades, as all my wheezing is gone. I only have a slight tickle in my left bronchi and throat, which is also slowly resolving.
Tell your doctor about the kidney pain.
Good luck to you.Last edited on Tue Apr 7th, 2009 22:48 by Deedee

Hi DeeDee,
First of all, thanks for responding, I was getting a bit worried about the mucus and breathing issues. I have the expectorant you are talking about, I'll see if it helps.
I am seeing my doctor tomorrow for my 1 month check up after starting the MP. He wants to monitor my BP. I will bring up all my funky pains and medical questions to him then. I wanted to see if I could get any answers from the study site before I see him.
Thanks for the support and comments, much appreciated.

I forgot to say that drinking lots of water can help thin your mucous.
Also something of interest in my personal experience is that before starting the MP I had no cough and certainly not a productive cough. My post-MP cough did not show signs of infection (yellow or green) but was often productive of a thick clear mucous up to the size of a quarter. I had no fever or other signs of infection. It was exhausting.
I was comforted knowing that lots of people reported similar IP following the start of the MP.
Honestly I didn't know how poor my breathing was until after my improvement as I lived many years with the (wrong) diagnosis of "mild asthma." I can take a much deeper breath now. Also interesting is that my cat scan shows no lung involvement.
Similarly I found that a certain IP would work its way through to the other side and I would realize another improvement. (Example: electric pains (I called them blinking christmas tree lights) in my arms and legs would last 1/2 hour to an hour and then disappear. Very weird. Now almost all of my leg pains and my planctar facisitis are gone.

DeeDee,
I was also diagnosed with asthma, only after my pulmenologist said it was post acute bronchitas, seasonal allergies, etc. My CT scan was also "normal". I can't believe myself when they said everything was normal because I was experiencing so much difficutly breathing. I experienced a significant reduction in ability to inhail and the medical professionals did not see anything wrong with me.
Oh my gosh, I have had plantar facisivtis too, it comes and goes over the years.
All I can say is THANK GOD FOR MP!! At least there's a way to get at the root of all these issues. I remain very hopeful.
Thanks again for the info and support,
Jean

Having suffered from plantar fasciitis, you will appreciate my experience.
About 6 years ago I feel in the shower, twisted my back and my right foot. Apparently I had torn the plantar and a large knot formed in my arch. Over the years I developed swelling not only in that foot, but the other foot as well. Then I began getting cramps in my legs.
My massage therapist said it was so odd that she could feel these little bumps under my skin on TOP of my feet, in my legs and in my plantar. That was before I was diagnosed.
I had several steriod injections directly into the knot. The Xrays showed considerable inflammation. I wore special shoes with terrific arch support and still my feet and legs hurt. I had to use an electric massager each night. I had two; one that pounded my arches and another that kneeded my legs. I also saw the massage therapist for regular deep tissue massage and I took OTC pain medicine.
Since being on the MP my massage therapist says all of the little bumps are gone. The scar in my right arch is much, much smaller. ( Did you know that sometimes sarcoidosis granulomas can form on scars?)
Anyway I have not used my massage machines in several months now. Sometimes my feet feel tired and every once in a while I might get IP which is VERY DIFFERENT than the pain I once had. It is now more like the blinking electric christmas lights and it will do that for a half hour or an hour and then go away. It also happens in my arms where I once had carpel tunnel and that is now gone, as well.
I have only been doing this 8 months and I have heard that the IP can come back when you hit the biofilm with a new antibiotic, but there is a world of difference already.
The swollen joint on my thumb that I was told was arthritis is now 1/2 the size and the tenderness is gone.
What I have found is that once you get to the other side of the IP, there is overall and lasting improvement and yes, the IP does seem to target the problem areas.
Glad you found the info on the kidneys. Aggressively explore the MP site and check frequently for updates.
