I had some blood work done this week, and one of them was to test for both of the Vit D levels. The 1,25 Vit D that you discuss on your Web site, and that gets sent to Mayo Clinic--I asked the lab assistant how she prepares and sends it, and she went and looked in her "guide book" and it stated how long to centrifuge it (which was along your guidelines), then she had to send it over to Meriter Hospital (Madison, WI) so that it could be sent on to Mayo Clinic. However, her work sheets said that the sample ONLY needed to be refrigerated, not frozen. We discussed this for a few minutes, but she told me that she could not go against protocol, because if the test came back invalid, then it would be her fault because she didn't follow the test guide lines.

My PCP doctor does not believe in the 1,25 Vit D test, says it's always inaccurate, and would, I am sure, be totally disinterested in whether or not the test was sent in refrigerated or frozen. In fact, I'm lucky she even agreed to let me take the test. Actually, she's almost positive I'm barking up the wrong tree and that my problems are from allergies; after living in this area for 11 years, I am FINALLY being sent to a specialist in allergy, immunology, and pulmonary. However, the area I live in also likes to push prescription meds big time, so I'm not sure this is good or bad...my main question is whether or not I have environmental allergies, or whether it's something with my immune system.

(I already know I have (had) heavy metal toxicity [I've chelated 3x], that I'm a poor metabolizer [CYP2C9 gene], that I have a casein allergy and am severely intolerant to soy and gluten, and that I also have 20 other food intolerances.). Not that my problems being from allergies are going to make much of a difference, since my PCP doctor apparently isn't versed in how food allergies and other allergies affect the body and what the different symptoms are. Don't get me wrong; my PCP doctor is new to me--not quite 2 years--and I love her. But I'm not finding her very well-versed on my problem areas. My Integration Doctor is better, but I have to pay out of pocket to see her and have labs done and can only afford so much.

So, I assume I will be getting back a test result that will be inaccurate? And if Mayo Clinic wants it to be a frozen sample, is there any reason, then, that the lab test work sheet guidelines that my clinic's lab assistant has to go by would tell her it only needs to be refrigerated and not frozen?

Thank you.

All of the information I have seen says it Needs to be frozen !!! Quest Diagnostics is suppose to be the most accurate lab !

The hardest part of MP is finding a good doctor.
Request a doctors list for your area in this site and pick one you like based on experience with MP.
When you get your results back post them in your signature line.
Make sure you get the .25D test as well as the 1.25D.
