A HEADS UP!

Hello everyone, I live in Ontario, Canada and today I went to re-order more Olmesartan (Benicar) from Pharmasave / Glebe Apothecary, in Ottawa, Ontario....and the pharmacist said they are no longer selling it..

Something to do with the patent on it...Apparently there is a Drug Co. who has the patent on it and the rights to manufacture it for Canada, but from some strange reason, they are not doing so as of yet...and he doesn't know why...

So this pharmacy has decided to stop selling it..but he said, there are a few other pharmacies in Canada still selling it...

Lisa :X

Patience, please.
It has only been 4 minutes since you posted your first question. Please allow at least 24 hours for somebody to, as you say, "jump in.":)

The cheapest pharmacy I know of for Benicar is http://www.canadageneric.com

They sell the Olmecip type of Benicar, which many of us use and like.

Seems to be shipped from Switzerland, and manufactured in India. Cynthia

We have just gone the rounds with this.  It can be very frustrating.  Canadageneric will only send benicar to a Canadian if you have an American doctor's prescription.  Very nice people on the phone, but they won't send benicar on a Canadian doctor's script.  Northwestpharmacy won't even have a discussion with a Canadian.  So both companies are useless to us up here.  They are designed for Americans.

Medisave.ca will send brand name benicar from England to you.  They are very kind and helpful on the phone.  But they cannot control customs and so if your order is sent back, they will only reorder that once the original shipment gets back to England.  We are six weeks and waiting on ours.  So there is a russian roulette quality to that.  But as long as you are willing to stockpile your meds knowing that customs is a silent player in your delivery, they are good people to order from.

Having just done the run around due to our order being sent back by customs, we are now buying our benicar from the Quebec pharmacy, Yetvart Paylin.  You have to deal with him by phone and fax as he is terrible with emails.  But he is very warm and kind on the phone.  And, more importantly, the order is sent immediately out after he calls you to make sure you have no allergies.  And no customs.  Yay!  This is who we will stick with now.

Good News! My doc is ok with prescribing me the MP Phase 1 meds pending the result of a final test. :P

I want this to be as painless for him as possible, so is there anything special he needs to be aware of  in regards to making out the prescription for the Olmesartan?

Also, is there any news on Schering-Plough and Olmetec? :?

Thanks!

Just make sure the prescription says Olmesartan, not Benicar. They've refused those before. They will compound both 40mg and 20mg capsule of Olmesartan. We now order the non time-release format but it should be stated in the prescription if that's what you want. I think if nothing is mentioned, they may give you the time-release format by default, but I'm not totally sure.

Since they're a compounding pharmacy, you can order smaller doses of antibiotics (e.g., 25mg Minocycline) from them as well. Requesting 100 capsules at 25mg will cost you more than 25 capsules at 100mg because there's more work involved.

ADD
Good News.

Olmetec will be available at Shoppers Drug Mart some time next week!!!!!! I got the info from Schering-Plough and then confirmed at Shoppers Drug Mart.

Cheers Deborah (Toronto)

I called Shopper's this afternoon, to find out what the price would be..The pharmacist said it isn't listed in their system yet, but she did check on her palm pilot and found a wholesaler that will be carrying it....She said the the price will be approx. $95.00 for 30 pills..so it's 3x the amount per pill, then what Yetvart is charging.....YIKES!

Think we are better to stick with Yetvart, if he can still sell it...Let's hope so.

Hi thelymelight, thank you for checking up on the status of Olmetec. Let's hold off freaking out about the price until it's on the market and we can verify the price directly.

I have not seen anyone post how much benicar costs per month if one does not have insurance to cover it.  In general how much does it cost per month in the USA or getting it from Canada?

go to NorthWestPharmacy.com, and you will find prices.  Sometimes, they have free shipping on various quantities.  Around $80 for 120 40mg Olmetec.

Hi,

I tried this website address, says it cannot be found?

Is this pharmacy in the USA or Canada?

NorthWestPharmacy.com is in Canada.  They may be updating their price lists--they are a little different just about everytime I order.  I have never been successful ordering online.  I just call them and fax the Rx.  This last time, I just faxed a refill request, and they e-mailed me a confirmation.  It does take a couple of weeks or more to get, so you have to plan ahead.

I asked for generic for Benicar, which is Olmecip rather than Olmetec.  Sorry--brain fog or senior moment.

1-866-539-5330 or CustomerService@NorthwestPharmacy.com for questions or concerns about order.  It has been really easy.  My most recent purchase was $77.33 for 120 pills + $9.99 for shipping.  My order previous to that was "free shipping."

Darlene

I just went to http://WWW.PLANETDRUGSDIRECT.COM and priced generic Benicar

It was: $58.00 (US) for 90 tabs

             $77.43 (US) for 120 tabs

I also went to http://WWW.NORTHWESTPHARMACY.COM and their prices were primarily the same as planet.

According to Health Canada's Drug Product Database, the DIN (Drug Identification Number) for Olmetec is as follows:

Olmetec 40mg (DIN = 02318679)
Olmetec 20mg (DIN = 02318660)

NOTE: Do not order Olmetec Plus as this contains THIAZIDE DIURETICS and is not the right one for the MP.

I spoke with Yetvart earlier this morning and gave him the Olmetec 20mg and 40mg DINs. He called me back to tell me that he'll be able to sell these at about half the price that Shoppers Drug Mart will be selling it at (which someone said would be about $95 for 30 tablets). He said the Olmetec can be ordered now.

If you already have Olmesartan prescription with him on file now and you have insurance which would pay for the Olmetec, you may want to ask him if he can convert the existing Olmesartan prescription to Olmetec.
