Hi,

You wanted to know how much Benicar costs at the pharmacy. I live in Arizona and it cost me $239.00 for 90 pills. So I went to Mexico, bought 168 pills of Olmesartan and they cost me $168.00 (Nogales, Arizona). I showed them to my doctor and she said they are the same thing. I just thought you would like to know.

Mary

Yetvart (in Montreal) has received the new Olmetec, both 20mg and 40mg. He's charging $150 for 120 tablets. The 40mg or 20mg cost the same. It might be easier to only have your doctor prescribe 40mg tablets and if need to take 20mg, the tablet should be easy to cut in half.

Thank you this is very helpful. How soon do they get to you and also I worry about customs, I have read that some people do not get the pills due to customs not letting them through.

Thank you

Hi Heather, Olmetec (Schering-Plough) is the same formulation as Benicar (Sankyo), so yes it does contain lactose.
A compounding pharmacist may be able to formulate lactose-free olmesartan. Do a search on this site for Yetvart for his information and call him to see if he can do it.
Maybe Lactase (Lactaid) would help?  It seems like it would be a very small amount of lactose anyway, but who knows.

Hey,

I was into my neighborhood co-op about 10 days ago and they had my benicar from their warehouse. It was around 412 dollars with blue cross covering all but 83.00 of it. I live in Alberta so hopefully we are slower than the states and everyone can get it now.

At first they had trouble with the supplyer but its ironed out now. That is only about 30.00 more than Quebec charges and its on your corner now.:D:D:D

I was trying to research northwestpharmacy.com. I tried to open up their website but the page would not open. I tried to telephone their toll free number and could not get a response. I am now going to try to purchase olmecip (generic) from Canadageneric.com. I have already spoken with them . They are located in Surrey B.C. Canada.

I am going to post a seperate question on here asking if anyone has ordered from Canadageneric as of lately. I get a little nervious ordering from a company that has no address. They only have a post office box number.

http://www.northwestpharmacy.com/

This should open it...just type in the drug name on the left and you'll find what they have! I have ordered the generic Benicar from them...they just need a doctors signature upon ordering and they'll send a request to them for you. I got my meds in the mail and it wasn't a problem! The generic just doesn't sit well with me for some reason...others have no problem with it...to each their own! ;)

Have any Canadians had any success getting insurance coverage for the compounded Olmesartan from Yetvart,  now that Olmetec is available here ??

I have to stay with the compounded med because I am lactose intolerant.

Heather,

I talked to Blue cross as thats who I am covered with, and they say benicar has the din # 02318679 and that Canada has the drug registered from Dec. 1 2008. It will be covered from that date. Compound shouldn't matter. I am guessing that whatever the compound mix, if a doctor prescribed it, submit it to your insurance company adding on the din # as when I talked to Quebec 3 weeks ago, they refused to put the din # on the reciept and I think the only reason is they are lazy and so don't want to deal with the insurance company's. There is no other reason. They want to grab their money and move on. When I talked to bluy cross they said to submit the reciept and they would cover their portion. The only thing that could be a problem is if whatever else is in the pill, must have a din #. If it doesn't, you may have a problem.
