Hi,

I have three autoimmune illnesses.  First came the vitiligo about 13 years ago.  It is still fairly slight case considering how long I have had it.  (Mostly on my hands and a few other spots)

Then about 4 years ago I came down with celiac disease,  I have been GF since April of 2008.  I have felt better since becoming GF,  but I have had a series of side effects including peripheral neuropathy in my right arm/hand, insomnia, anemia,  fatty liver disease, brain fog).  At this point all the gastro symptoms of celiac disease are gone and so is the anemia and brain fog and fatty liver disease, but i still have the peripheral neuropathy and the insomnia.  During my treatment of celiac disease, a test result showed high TSH.  A doctor suspected Hashimoto's but I had no symptoms at that time and was feeling so much better just being GF that I resisited getting on sinthroid as she suggested.

Finally, another doctor convinced me to start on sinthroid  but immediately after taking it, I felt sick all over again.  When I checked on the internet a lot of people were saying that sinthroid made them feel sick , so I stopped taking it and kinda just ignored the high TSH reslts as they kept coming.

Last August (2011) I finally got all the symtoms of hypothroidism.   I was freezing cold, though it was about 100 degrees all summer, low body temp ( couldn't get my body temp over 97 degrees), extreme fatigue, just overall feeling of being sick.  Periodically I also had heart palpitations, and extreme anxiety.  I then developed joint pain and especially back pain that wouldn't go away for like 5 months.

To make a long story short I finally realized that sinthroid is not gluten free, and I even had a bad reaction to armour.  I finally found Nature-throid which is hypo-allergenic and GF.  I have actually been diagnosed with Hashimoto's by a naturopath.

With my sister's help last April,  I found a chiropractor who after 4 sessions got me out of the severe back pain I had been in.

Then a few months later, she helped me find a fantastic acupuncturist.  In addition to having acupuncture ( with meditation) twice a week, she put me on an anti-inflammatory diet ( in addition to already being GF.)   She told me that exercising would help me with the inflammation and would eliminate toxins that I was storing in belly fat that were adding to my symptoms.

I was finally able to go back to the gym this July.  Since getting back to the gym and following the anti-inflammatory diet, I have finally lost the weight I had gained since coming down with Hashimoto's. (about 25 pounds) .

I really feel (and look) so much better but I still have insomnia and some peripheral neuropathy in my right hand.

I have also been taking a ton of supplements, vitamin D3, selenium, zinc, fish oil, vitamin B complex, a plant-based anti-inflammotry supplement,  milk thistle, a calcium/magnesium/potassium supplement, black raspberry, uniquinol, etc..

I have not yet read what the Marshall Protocol is but I am hoping it will give me tools that i need to stop this autoimmunity path I am on so that I don't get RA or MS.

I am also wondering what toxins make autoimmunity worse and if I can reverse the remaining symptoms I have and maybe even heal my thyroid so I don't have to take thyroid hormones for the rest of my life.

welcome to the prelimiary questions forum, Sophia

sadly, what conventionally trained practitioners do not realise, is that fish oil and 'vitamin' D supplements are some of the toxins being stored in your body fats.

Your weight loss so far may help, but please realise that Marshall Protocol is a long term commitment, particularly for those who have used concentrated marine products; vitamin preparations containing v.D, and/or other steroidal preparations.

Please go to the links in my signature line to commence your re-education :D

It is a misconception of medicine that all of your various symptoms/diseases are separate diseases.  They are not.  The root of your problems is infection by hundreds of species of microbiota, bacteria, viruses, and probably a few others like fungi to a lesser extent.  This is not to say that you are one of the unfortunate people to be infected, as everyone and all animals are infected, it is just a question of how much infection, where, and by which species.  The diseases of old age are not caused by old age, but by this infection that gets worse with time.  If acute illness or mechanical causes don't kill a person, eventually the infection will.

The MP (Marshall Protocol) by design, and to all of our good fortune, serendipity, gradually works down the infection to eventually eliminate the symptoms.  All of the many things you have done have not had any effect on the source of your illness, as it has not killed off any of the microbiota, and mostly has just suppressed the immune system reducing the collateral damage of an active immune system that is trying to get a handle on the infection.  This gives relief, but unfortunately, allows the microbiota to get a stronger hold on your system.

Please take the time to read extensively on our info site, http://mpkb.org/ , which Sallie has given you an index for.  The MP is a very serious under taking, is lengthy, and you can expect to feel worse before you feel better.  But is does work, and appears to be the only thing that does.  But the reading I am recommending is a necessity, as you will very likely have to know more than your doctor, as it is a very rare doctor that knows much about this protocol.  So it will be your responsibility to make sure that you and your doctor are following the protocol correctly.

Come to this thread to ask if you don't understand something that you read on the info site.

Welcome to our forums, Cynthia
