I'm hoping someone on this board can help.  I have Sarcoidosis that had been under control with Diflucan and melatonin (skin sarc), but now it's in my heart.  Of course, the 'experts' as well as my family are pushing Pred and the other junk.

I'd like to start the MP but I have an issue with Vit. D.  My Vit D1,25 does run high, as Dr. Marshall states, but if I don't take a small amount of supplement each week, my D25 runs too low, and my hair falls out.   Even if I am willing to go bald for my Sarc, I don't know what's happening with my bones due to the low D25, as low as 5.

Any suggestions?  As with Cardiac Sarc, time is of the essence that I start on some treatment before it takes my life.

So glad to have found you!

Elizabeth

Elizabeth, you'll want to discuss these with your doctor(s)...

antifungal helped in case with very high 1,25D - why?

Thanks for all of the info.  I've read most of it and yes, I'm totally on board with MP over Pred and MTX, etc.  BUT, what I got from the articles is that there must be something else causing my hair loss, not lack of Vit. D.  Does anyone else have this problem?  This disease is bad enough.  If I do the MP to the letter, my hair will fall out.  Any thoughts?

Are changes in hair and nails common in Th1 diseases?

I was on Vit D supplementation, then was diagnosed with sarc, went on MP and off Vit D and diet restrictions.  For about 6 months I lost hair, but it stopped falling out. When you reduce D from your diet, you go through hormonal shifts.  This is also where the light sensitivity comes into play.

Vitamin D is poison to those of us with sarcoidosis.  Consider how it may have played a role in the development of sarcoidsois in your heart.  Vitamin D promotes the formation of granulomas.

Before I was diagnosed and before I started to get constant abdo pain I started to lose a lot of hair. Fortunately I have a lot of hair so it wasn't too obvious. I became quite thin around the hairline. I believe it was the flare up of sarcoid which caused it. I think I have had sarcoid for 20 years but the symptoms were so infrequent that I didn't realize I had a chronic disease. I have only been on benicar for 2 weeks so I haven't noticed any change. But I intend to buy a wig if the hair loss gets worse. This disease scares me and I will do anything to get better. As I see it prednisone will thin your bones and increase your hair loss cause diabetes and give your cataracs with out curing your disease. MP was an easy decision for me.

Hope this helps
