Hello everyone,

I'm trying to get Medicare to pay for the Benicar, they have denied and I believe it is going through an appeal. The office manager at my doctor's office was kind enough to give me a month's supply of Benicar. I went back and looked at some of the posts on this subject and found a website for a generic Benicar through Canada. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Is there is difference between Brand name and generic Benicar?

thanks much for any help

Katherine

I'm on my second shipment from NorthWestPharmacy.com in Canada. Takes about 3 weeks to get.  No probs so far.  Reports here are that it is perfectly fine for the MP.

Benicar is still covered by patent, so there cannot be a generic version in most countries.

Josh,
Olmesartan medoxomil is manufactured in India under the name "Olmecip" and in China (I don't know the name yet).

The Olmecip product does not have the GI-tract coating of Benicar, but seems to work as well or better than Benicar with most members. Some have reported rectal bleeding or tightening if they don't use the brand-name Benicar tablets.

You are correct that Benicar is still on patent in the USA, and it is not legal to offer Olmecip for sale here.

Thanks everyone for your answers

Cynthia - thank-you for the information, I don't get free shipping, although they say two weeks max for shipment. we'll see.

Dr. Marshall - Is the Olmesartan Medoxomil the chemical name for Olmicep and Olmesartan the chemical name for Benicar?

They said it is shipped out of UK (didn't know if it was coming from India).

Thanks again,

Wishing you all a Happy Turkey Day!

Katherine

Katherine, I ordered from NorthWestPharmacy.com, also.  My Olmecip (Olmesartan Medoxomil) came within the two-week period and was actually shipped from Sweden.  I had asked my doctor for a prescription for a larger quantity, so I ordered 90 to get free shipping and still have 30 left on the Rx.  I faxed the Rx.  As you  probably have read on the site, you need to have extra on hand to manage immunopathology.

Good luck,

Darlene

Olmesartan Medoxomil is the chemical name for Olmecip and Olmesartan.

Olmecip is usually shipped to the USA from either Germany or Britain.

I read somewhere there is more than one kind of Benicar and the tablets look different - that one is not suitable and the other is right for us to take. Just cant find the information again.

I have an ileostomy bag and doubt I need the GI-tract coated benicar. Am struggling with the cost of brand name benicar. Am I OK using Olmecip from India rather than the expensive brand benicar? Also, does Olmecip perform the same functions as brand benicar?

Thanks,

Jane.

By the way, I get my Olmecip directly from Mumbai...the cost is about $10US per box.  If you take a perscription with you to Mumbai, most of the english speaking pharmacies will fill that perscription... When you bring it back through customs, you must have the phamacist put on the label..."For Personal Use Only". Three months supply is usually not questioned by customs.  This has been my experience.

What country are you in?

I have not been able to contact planetdrugsdirect.com or even get access to their website from here in New Zealand.

I tried the phone directory; I also spoke to the Pharmacy Council and they have no one under that name (here in New Zealand).

Jane.

No.. I take it all the time. Too, I asked Dr. Marshall that same question before I bought mine, and he also confirmed that it was ok.   In fact I buy mine from http://www.northwestpharmacy.com.  You can buy Olmecip 40 mg without a prescription from http://www.inhousepharmacy.com...

Good Morning,

I want to let you know what I found about the "right kind of Benicar"

I originally started MP 2/15 with the "right kind of Benicar" and went through all the Herx just fine while I waited for my Benicar from Canada to arrive.  I purchased the generic Benicar becasue they convinced me there was no difference and it was less expensive.  When the Canadian Benicar arrived I filled my bottles with the new generic Benicar.  Taking my medication as directed I was now at the 75mg Mino. The Herx were not the same.  I thought I was going to die five days ago with basal skull pain, extreme chills and 102 fever. I was able to break the fever 6 hours after it began.  I decided to skip a day to let my body calm down and didn't take another 75mg for 72 hours. Then took the next Mino of 75mg. Once again the Herx did the same thing except the affected areas were lungs, chills and fever102.  Twenty fours hours after the Mino does my Kindeys began sever pain to where I couldn't sit or stand without terrible pain. My lungs are still a little wheeze but better at this point.

I had gone on curemyth1.org as I usually do just to continue to learn and stumbled across the post of the "right kind of Benicar."  Last evening when I was still feeing so bad I thought about my Canadian Benicar verses the "right kind of Benicar" and remembered I still had some of the original prescription left.  I decided to take the Benicar from the original medication and within 15 minutes had releif that I had not had since I went to 75mg Mino and started the generic.

With that level of pain I was not sure how long I could go on with the program.  It felt like I was damaging my organs.  This morning I am sore but not the level of systemic pain I was in.  I do understand that Herx are expected but the difference between the two medications and my body was drastic so I want to share that less cost may mean less coverage.  I thank the Lord that I stumbled on to the "right kind of Benicar"

You bring up an interesting question. When I first started using the Olmecip 40mg, that I got from Northwest Pharmacy, my blood pressure went down and I experienced herx reactions, I got fatigued and then felt better. However, since November of 2008, the only noticeable herx reaction I've had is a night sweat. Now, my allergy symptoms have been really bad and my blood pressure has been running a little high (141/100) even though I'm taking Olmecip 40 4X daily. My real question is how can we tell if they're selling us a bad batch of Olmecip?

Hello Etolbert,

All I can say is that the ones I got from Canada were not coated nor did they have the the C-15 scored on them. I orignially used Benicar brand name.  I do feel so much better today, praise God. This could also be lessening of Herx as the hours pass.  I want to do what works best for this body.  To a brighter week.

Be Well,

Patty

Hello Again Etolbert,

After getting back on the Daiichi Sankyo Benicar 40 mg. my life is back to normal herx. I am happy!  I found that it is not easy pinning down these pharmacy's to confirm that it is the Sankyo C-15 pill.  I am getting some med. from planetdrugsdirect.com and they did confirm it was Daiichi Sankyo.

Be Well,

Arizona Patty

Arizona Patty,

When you say your original script from Canada as being the "right kind of Benicar" .was that the compounded "Olmesartan" from Yetvart Pharmacy in Montreal and now when you say the "new Benicar in Canada" is that the Olmetec from Schering-Plough Pharmaceuticals? which is the Canadian version of the Benicar from the USA?

I was a little confused on your posting about "Benicar" :?
