Yes, I got 120 tabs, 40mg Benicar thru Aetna (Prescription D program) for a copay of around $5.00. This went on for 4 yrs.

I qualified thru the State for SLMB (which paid my Medicare premium) and for help with prescription D. (called xtra help).

Call your state Medicaid program and inquire what you need to do. They will tell you what your maximum income is to qualify.

Thanks Barney,  I don't qualify for medicaid nor any special assistance......However, I will check into Aetna as my 'D" coverage.   Right now, I am paying $1200 yr for just benicar which I definitely cannot afford.  Thanks for the info.   Carol

Have you thought about forgetting Prescription D for Benicar and ordering from:

I just copied this from a post at the top of As your Questions....this was posted around Sept 09...prices may have changed but you can check with all of them as they all post an 800 number for you to call. Maybe this will help you.

The cheapest one I could find is http://www.unitedpharmacies.com (mentioned above by trevorharris) which comes in at $0.70 per 40mg tablet, which is close to the cheapest prescription-required Canadian sites. Here's a list sorted by price per 40mg tablet along with shipping charges per order to the U.S.:

Prescription-required sites:
http://www.canadageneric.com   180/$98.00       $0.54  ($9.99)
http://www.planetdrugsdirect.com  180/$102.00     $0.56  (free)
http://www.northwestpharmacy.com 180/$116.00     $0.64  (free)

No-prescription-required sites:
http://www.unitedpharmacies.com 200/$140.00    $0.70  ($7.50)
http://www.4040rx.com                             500/$440.00    $0.88  (free)
http://www.aclepsa.com 90/$87.00       $0.97  ($16.50)
http://www.inhousepharmacy.com              90/$92.00       $1.02  (free)
http://www.healthychoicepharmacy.com 90/$93.16       $1.03  ($10.00)
Another source for benicar (olmecip) is http://www.canadageneric.com at $205.99 for a 3-month supply, including shipping.  Same routine as planetdrugs.  Order and pay.  Doctor emails or faxes script tagged with your order#.

When ordered from planetdrugs, the cost was $232, free shipping.
can order 2 x 180ct ($204) rather than  4 x 90ct ($232)

Thanks for info.  I just wonder if it is worth the fight since after 5 months, you'll fall into the gap?????   I guess it may be worth a try for a few months though.   Thanks.

I am having a lot of problems trying to get benicar since January. I was getting 90 tablets a month from Humana for two and a half years but they denied it from January 2010. My doctor sent letters and faxes to them but they would not bend on their decision. I was very frustrated at this point so I changed to AARP (United Health Care) insurance from March 1st 2010. When I went to the pharmacy to collect my tablets they told me that I was only allowed 30 tablets and my doctor had to call them to get an override on the amount. My doctors office is very reluctant to do this and I have been calling them for the past week and so far nothing has been resolved. I am at my wits end as I really will find it hard to pay for the benicar as I am on social security with no other means of income. I cannot understand who in the insurance companies makes these decisions and why they do not realise that in the long run they are saving money as I have stopped taking a lot of other medications which I took before I went on the MP. I have been on the MP for 2 1/2 years and have seen many improvements in my health. My pulmonary doctor told me on Friday that my chest xray was good and also my ECG, I had the tests at the end of last year. I will keep trying and hopefully I will win in the end.

I also have Humana and Medicare.  Humana rejected me also.  I just ordered from NW Pharmacy but you are right, it is expensive.  I am checking on other insurance companies also.....will let you know if I find something in the Medicare field that will give unlimited amounts.    You are fortunate to have a pulmonologist.  I think mine will refuse to see me when he finds out I am on the MP.  I am just waiting on the benicar to arrive to begin.     Pls let me know if you find any alternatives to the health care perscription plan.

I called Medicare today to let them know that my insurance company United Health Care refused to give me the full amount of benicar and only allowed 30 tabs a month. They took all my information and told me that they were going to file a complaint with United Health Care and they would get back to me as soon as they heard from them. In the meantime I have ordered 180 tabs from Northwest Pharmacy in Canada and hopefully it will arrive by next week. It cost me $115 for the generic. I will wait and see what Medicare can do with the insurance company and will post the results as soon as I hear from them.

Good Luck in getting the benicar in a week.  I have now been waiting 3 weeks for mine from Northwest Pharmacy.   Also, I have United through Humana Gold.  Let me know if you get a positive response.  I am out of town b/f beginning the protocol.  I, too, will call and complain about not getting the full 120 tabs.   If I recall correctly, Sam's Pharmacy said that 120 tabs would cost over $400 so I figured it would only work for a few months.....but then again, after we come out of the gap, we will get it at 100%...will have to do some figuring if United will cooperate.

I got a few calls from United yesterday telling me that they could only give me 60 benicar tablets 20mg which is 30 benicar 40mg. I told them that it was not adequate as I needed 120 tablets 40mg and my doctor had requested this from them. They have denied it again and I told them to call Medicare and let them that they had denied it so I am waiting to see if I get another call from them and what they will say. I am going to cancel my insurance with them as I will not pay a monthly premium if they cannot give me what I need.

You can not just go on and off the MP easily. Once your immune system kicks in, you will need the Benicar even more. Don't put yourself in the situation where you "run out" of Benicar.

The prescription plans you are discussing have set drugs they will cover, and set amounts based on what is typical. You can try to get a waiver, but as it has been discussed, this will take a while if it is possible at all.

Probably the best bet is to figure out a way to trim the budget so you can buy on your own, by-passing all of this nonsense.

Hi, you may want to price the 3 month supply.  I am paying $231 for a 3 mo supply of 4 benicar per day.....same pharmacy...Northwest.  FYI

I wouldn't order from any of those no prescription sites. They look pretty dubious. I've ordered my Benicar HCT for about 18 months from an online Canadian pharmacy, northwestpharmacy.com. It usually takes two weeks and I've not had any problems.

Hang tight and don't risk your health to a fake pharmacy that doesn't want a prescription!

Jerrymac,

Are you taking Benicar HCT as part of the MP?

I hope not. But if so, please review this article:

Can someone tell me what the Benicar from Northwest Pharmacy looks like?  It is olmicep and I just recd today round white pills.  I start Friday and can't wait.   OH, I was also going to suggest that for those having problems w/medicare getting the extra benicar, that maybe it would be beneficial to get the 30 per month through medicare and then order the 3 month supply from Canada or elsewhere.  This is my plan so that I will have the extras needed.
